Breathing Feet

sleeping feet, originally uploaded by poppycatopetal.

As many of you know, I think feet are quite important, as do large numbers of yogis and yoga authors. My friend Geraldine passed this lovely poem on to me. It's from Breath - The Essence of Yoga by Sandra Sabatini:

Breathe wtih your feet
be in your feet
go and live inside your feet

and at the very end of the exhalation
dismiss the heels

it's very important that at the end of the exhalation
the feet receive the message of spreading
so that contact with the ground become more intelligent
then the roots grow stronger and thicker
into the ground
and the impulse that travels through the spine
up towards the base of the skull
encourages the opening and expansion
of the upper part of the body

I would love to hear how you all feel about your feet - on and off the mat!

In the meantime, enjoy this gorgeous pic from poppycatopetal at Flickr.

I think my feet are ok. I don't hate them but I do neglect them quite a bit. Yoga does make me think of them more since I find myself looking at them more. But it's usually thoughts like "I need a pedicure!". They have seen some wear and tear tho.

I feel a great energy when I touch the ground with my bare feet. I was practicing for some time splashing myself with the cold water while staying nude on the snow - it's something really special!

Wow, newbie, that sounds...interesting. I am dying to know more details, but erm, maybe not, this being a respectable blog and all!

i think i take care of my feet more than i do my hands!

Funny how yoga practice makes you more aware of your feet - like you thinking you need a pedicure, Marilyn, and you, Danura, getting pedis! I must confess I do the same - I am fanatical about my feet, but my hands get no attention. Love your feet posts.
